B&W 802 Series 80 Teak finish question

Hi - I have an older pair of B&W 802 Series 80 from 1985 with Teak finish that I wanted to refinish. The cabinets are in relatively good shape w/ no deep scratches nor damages. Just a few nicks here and there but some spots are a little faded and slightly worn. Does anyone know how the veneer was finished on those speakers? Looked like oiled, but then could have been a thin layer of polyurethane? It's satin finish and not high gloss. My initial plan was to sand it down and refinish in Watco Danish oil to bring out the grains. Was thinking of using a random orbital sander with 220 or higher. But if oiled, I can just steel wool some refinishing oil into it. Appreciate any information. Thanks.

I'd start with 4/0 steel wool and teak oil on a bottom surface. If they were sealed with a film finish then oil won't penetrate and it will stay sticky. If it penetrates then you have your answer. If it doesn't then something like Formby's refinisher would be my next test, again on a bottom surface. This should be effective on most finishes other than poly. If it's crosslinked poly then abrasives are the only "solvent". Veneers can be sanded through with an RO in the blink of an eye, especially those that lack EVS. Unless you have a TOTL RO I'd hand sand with the grain very carefully.
