What's the word on B&W DM4s? I have an opportunity to buy a pair of these, but I have not and will not have a chance to test them beforehand. They look to be in really good condition and are being sold by a reputable seller. The ones I am looking at do not come with stands. What's a good price? Would they pair well with a Fisher 800B and Thorens 160 or Empire 208?

I have a pair; I think they sound quite good, but what you'll think may depend on what you're accustomed to. I picked mine up for free about a year ago, but my recollection is that when I looked into it that they would probably go for somewhere around $100-150.
I listened to them for a few weeks when I first got them and thought they were very nice, but I eventually went back to my Vandersteens 2ces (which do sound better, but I would certainly expect them to, and they're a lot bigger and more expensive.)
The B&W DM4s are purportedly very similar to the Spendor BC1, which appears to have the same tweeter and supertweeter, but a different woofer. Of course, I've never heard a pair of those -- I'm getting that from what I've read. If you do a search for them on here, you'll find much more about the B&Ws.

Years ago I owned the BC1. They were excellent speakers for their day but they did have some issues. Mainly from a bump in the mid base. It gave a richness and warmth to vocals, every one on NPR radio sounded fansastic but some people thought the base wasn't that tight or that deep. On the wrong material the base could sound downright loose and boomy. They were speakers more for Sarah Vaughan jazz, anything on the Verve label and Steely Dan funk. I never heard the DM4s so maybe their bass does sound better. My ears tend to be more sensitive to brightness and listener fatigue so YMMV.
