Hi all. I in the market for new speakers and a nice pair of B & W Matrix 3 (Series 1) speakers has popped up. Given they are now 30+ years old I imagine, is it unwise to purchase these? Any experience or advice on this particular model? And any ballpark on reasonable price in great shape? Any advice or reflections would be most welcome! Thanks.

If they are in good condition I don't see age being an issue. You may want to change the capacitors for new, better improved ones. If you like the looks and the sound and the price is right... most people here have speakers that are 30+ years old so it's not really a consideration for a lot of people.. it's more about how they sound, cost, and availability.

I have a couple pair of 30 year plus B&W Matrixes, and they sound pretty damn good to me. I know your Matrix series was very well regarded. Like all Matrix models, they like power behind them. X-overs might want to be looked at down the road.
If you can test them with music you are familiar with, and the price is right, I would not let their age disqualify them from consideration.
