We have a dusty inch or so here in my part of Georgia. The governor declared a state of emergency, the university and most businesses are closed and there have been two accidents on the loop. The deer seem to be very confused and I'm pretty sure the two young bucks that keep circling my house are plotting to get at my milk and bread.

Bill has mentioned what I think about every time I hear about snow in places that usually don't get much of it. Here we are very used to heavy snowfalls and have the equipment to handle it. I really do feel sorry for people that get snow measured in feet who don't have the required equipment. I have my own personal scale of what depth of snow gets handled with what equipment;
Up to 5 inches = shovel
6 to 9 inches = my small craftsman 5HP snowblower
10 inches or more = my trusty 15HP Ariens with heated handgrips
I know it may be hard to gauge in this pic, but this was my backyard shed after a couple of feet fell, with close to 5 foot drifts, back in the "snowmageddon" winter of 2014
(Notice how the wind blew in such a way that there was maybe 6" on the roof, but 4ish feet in front of the door)

Yep, I broke bad on that intrusive snow today, 1/10/25. Knocked it down with this little tractor that we use to cut the grass and other little things around here. It's a good thing we have that blade to because the driveway is 200 feet long. Money well spent, $2500.
It stopped at 14 inches. Four miles away my friend says he got 11.
Wisconsin used to be a winter sports paradise. The past ~decade, or more, has seen our snow go south ... just like the profits from selling snowmobiles, snowblowers, skiing, and other seasonal gear. That's a shame because most of us, here, are used to the snow and look forward to the fun snow can bring.
Hopefully, I'm wrong but I'll be surprised if increasingly more things don't "go south" in the future.

We've only had a couple of inches of snow, it's about all we've got each year for over a decade. We live south of Manchester, in what I call "The Tropic of Trafford," as we have a milder climate than some areas of the UK, because we are protected on three sides by hills. There was a blue sky and sunshine this morning. But I stayed out of the garden.
We've been, "promised," +10c by Tuesday.

I'm in maybe the warmest part of the country (Tucson) and I've had a cold for more than a week and I'm freezing all the damn time. I live in a brick house built in the late 1950s so I can't afford to keep it very warm. This windstorm that f'ed up Los Angeles came through here and I've never seen a sustained wind that strong. It wasn't as strong as some of the bursts during a monsoon, but they aren't sustained.

My two big dummies got to wear their winter coats yesterday. First time it's been cold enough. Last couple of winters have been pretty mild.
One has a very thin coat (Weimaraner), so he thought it was great. The other guy (Lab) has a double-layer coat, but he didn't complain about wearing his coat.
First one we have tried that actually fit well and the dogs appear to like.

we had about half inch of snow last Sunday night, it froze solid and it's still there now since it's not got above freezing since. Supposed to warm up a bit tomorrow though.
It's been mostly between 16° and 28° F since last weekend. Yesterday, it got up to 36. Today, we have 34° F and wet, heavy snow coming down. Tomorrow, it's supposed to be 34 and mostly sunny. So, what falls now will melt tomorrow.
I went out earlier and was over dressed because I got into the routine of dressing for colder. This rollercoaster is what causes me to get sick. Consistent temps for a while followed by a gradual change in ONE direction only would be so much better.

It's not as cold as it is for some of you, but it's been cold enough. No where near as much snow as some of you, but we have enough. About 2 inches with some sleet and a little freezing rain mixed in. Had to leave at5:30 to take the misses to work this morning.
Temps are supposed to drop near the mid teens tonight so what doesn't dry up will be Pretty hard. I have to go get her at 7:00 and I expect to have to do that again tomorrow.
I did fire up the new toy to break up and pull some of the crunchy stuff from in front if the cars. Also the end of the back sidewalk where the runoff from what melts likes to collect and freeze. It's it's first winter.
