I have just finishing watching Bach: A Passionate Life the finest documentary I have ever seen on the life of Johann Sebastian Bach presented by the conductor Sir John Eliot Gardiner. Sir John travels through Germany. There we learn of J.S.Bach's life, tragedies and his music. He showed me a man I have never met, not the grim faced statues we are so used to seeing but the family man who lost a wife and 10 children during his life and despite or because of this composed and preformed music that today is counted as classics that will forever be on the repertoire of classical musicians across most of the planet. The musical performances are spell binding, period instrumentation, the correct pitch, and performed in the locations where Bach first presented them. The ending of the show will bring tears to your eyes, so poignant and so right.
