Backwards wired arm wand on an Audiocraft

There is a place in hell for whoever wired this armwand. Found a good deal on a dream arm, beautiful Japanese battleship unipovot. Been futzing with armboard and setup and plugged it in…hum. Terrible godawful hum.

Check all grounding.Check cables. Swap three cartridges through (always have a drawer of old cartridges). Nope still hums. I’m sweating now. Is the pivot wiring toast? Did I just buy a lemon? How much is a rewire gonna cost?

Last ditch some hindpart of my brain said try the removable armwand upside down.

Silence. Beautiful silence. I held the damn thing upside down and played a beater record with it. Not a whisper of hum. Sounds just fine, aside from horrible tracking cause I’m bidding it upside down so…What the hell is this?!

Flip my cartridge wiring, and bam. Works fine in normal.

I assume somebody rewired it and paid no great attention to the rotation of the socket at the other end of the armwand.

Jesus my heart is still beating I thought I had a real nightmare in my hands.

Backwards goddamn wiring in the armwand. What the hell!
