Bad Headphone Socket

i have a Rotel RA930AX integrated amp. Bought new in the mid 90s. It’s a great amp and I’ve had it serviced a couple of times. I’ve noticed that my headphone socket is bad, just moving the headphone jack a bit will make the sound cut in and out, not completely, just loses the low end. Thorough doses of Deoxit have not changed the situation.

A fellow on YouTube makes it seem like it could be just a simple matter of opening up the amp and hitting the connection points of the socket to the board with a bit of solder. I was interested in doing it myself instead of my service guy as I just didn’t feel like handing it off or dealing with him in this Covid challenged time.

I’ve scrounged around the web quite a bit including this site but haven’t found too much information about this problem. Does the YouTube fellow’s ideas sound like the thing to try? I haven’t even looked under the hood yet to see if the headphone socket sits like the example on YouTube, but I am anticipating that it may be similar.

Would appreciate very much anyone weighing in!

Definitely sounds like a loose solder joint. However, if you have small children, take a flashlight and look into the socket just in case there is something in there. Could also be a spider that decided to make a new home in there too!

The socket may or may not be easy to get to after you take the case off, depends on the design.
