Greetings,
I was attempting to set the idle current on my NAD 3020 (filter caps in the middle edition) and touched my meter probe somewhere I shouldn't have. Buzzing and smoke. Cut the power after about a second. I can see two fried resistors and maybe a fried ceramic cap (though it may just have been that way already.) Quickly learned how to use my dim bulb tester. The speakers buzz and the light stays lit (probably shouldn't have even tried this till more was done.)
I am still definitely a newbie. Any help would be appreciated. What's the process? I can replace those two resistors and one cap and then see what happens while connected to dim bulb? What other things should I do? Feel free to point me to another thread. I searched for 'nad 3020 smoke' and read what was there (not much.)
Should I have been using dim bulb tester while trying to probe for idle current? I was trying to probe the trace side of R653 because when I used mini grabbers on the resistor itself I was getting 0 mv, which I thought might be due to residue and dust getting in the way. I didn't think I touched two things at once with my probe. Can you short things from one probe to the other (through the multimeter?!)
