Holy smokes!

a vintage furniture reseller/restorer posted about this “cemented carbide” scraper tool and I just had to try it. It’s unbelievable. You pull the blade and somehow it just cracks and obliterates old wood finishes. Magical.

used it on a beat up Aristocrat cabinet, where the old varnish failed to fall to citrus based stripper and it vanished. I sound like an infomercial.

be smarter than me and keep it away from adjacent face joins for fear of chip out, I just said fuggit and repaired those chips after the fact.

before and after shots attached.

the after is a cabinet effectively stripped with no chemicals.

And no sanding? Amazing.
 
Scraping as opposed to sanding is the preferred method of "serious" woodwdworkers(see David Marks, that man just loves to scape), wonder how it compares to hand scapers

I've heard it said that serious wood workers much prefer scraping over sanding or steel wool. Both of those leave either grit or steel wool fibers in the wood which screw with finishes.

Way over my pay grade! :)
 
Glad it worked for you so well. Although, I'd hesitate to use one of these two handed tools these on veneer I cared about.
Cabinet makers hand scrapers, once you've learned how to use them, are easy and give much greater control. Basically a flexible card of metal with a burr on one edge. You push forward with the edge bowed out.

Wikipedia has them as "card scrapers" to distinguish from the metalworking process - for those interested in the process.
