Hi all, I have decided to get back into audio after being away for quite some time. I just bought a Musichall MMf7 turntable, and I'm now looking for a new Power amp to connect to my faithful Crown Ic150. I was thinking about the Crown XTI 1000. I really don't understand the difference between the balanced and unbalanced inputs. How do I interface the Ic150 with RCA jacks to the XTI 1000?

I assume the power amp has xlr inputs with pin 2 as hot or + ???
If that is the case, you connect the outer shield/sleeve of the rca plug to pins 1 and 3 on the xlr and the center pin of the rca to pin 2 of the xlr.

Edit: Check out the Crown amps forum also. This subject has just been discussed recently. One of the main considerations is the difference between "consumer" line level and "Pro" line level. The input sensitivity of those amps is different than consumer amps.

Artie, That was very informative. Thanks. My Phase Linear 400 series 2 died that is why I'm replacing the power amp. Since I have a mint Ic-150 I thought it would make sense to replace the Phase with a Crown. You just can't kill those things. I really don't want to spend a fortune. Do you feel the Crown XTI 1000 would be a good fit?

You and I seem to have similar styles. My PH 400 died also. I use a Crown DC150A. 
(Although, my 400 was never my "main" amp.)
To be honest, if it was me, I'd go the XLS202D route. Or maybe step up to the 402D. I realize those are made in China, (to Crown specs), but they'll still outperform that old PH 400. IMHO
If you don't mind spending the extra money for the XTi-1000, I'm sure it will be a killer amp. It just will need a bit more "drive" to power it.

I forgot that you were running this with a Crown pre-amp. I'm surprised that they didn't address this in the Crown forum. Doesn't your preamp have a "0db / -10db" switch on the back? If it does, simply switch it to the 0db position for the XTI-1000. Your preamp has the ability to supply 12 volts of output drive. That should drive anything. 
btw - Its not that the 402 is a better match, its just that its more of a "consumer" item than the XTI-4000. Its a cost-saving issue. If money was no object, I'd go for the XTI.
