Bansky's intro to Simpson's episode

Banksky did the opening for The Simpsons episode last week and it has political undertones. This is supposed to be a factory where under age asian children make Simpson merchandise for the benifit of 20th Century Fox. Watch it before UTube pulls it. Just joking, of course! Every episode is so saturated with political stuff that I truly think the Simpsons writers see it as political propaganda first, and comedy second --although they are pretty funny sometimes with the comedy!

Living in this part of the world, and having friends who own factories, having been in plenty of factories for work, etc... I can confirm that this intro couldn't be farther from the truth, but it makes for some quite amusing imagery!

From what I was reading in the comments on another site that posted this, the animation cell department is more of a entry level/generic job more than anything. I personally don't really know, but it sounds a little interesting, certainly better than just paperwork.

While I don't like Bansky, the intro is a bit funny, I like the dolphin package taper and unicorn cd-punch. Not sure if it was an expected joke, but my favorite part is the usual simpsons intro blaring in right behind the otherwise depressing intro, talk about soundtrack dissonance

The Simpsons took a shot at FOX? Say it ain't so! One of the more interesting results of the unprecedented level of creative control the Simpsons production team has over their show is that they aren't afraid to fire away at their employer - and FOX doesn't really care as long as the ratings keep coming in.

I'm pretty sure FOX vett's everything that goes to screen on their network...and they let this pass as the publicity it'll generate for one of their cash cows is worth more than the bit of social commentary attached ..which we know (...lets face it) everyone will forget about almost immediately. We already know this "Sweat Shop" stuff happens, so why are we being duped to believing this "commentary" is a big deal attached to the Simpsons.

In that respect "Banksy" might be a little bit behind the times here...and possibly a little bit naive.

This plays to me more like another corporate publicity triumph.....rather than a tiny piece of successful social commentary, which I assume was its original intention. I don't assume for a second, they "got past" anyone.

In fact, the success of this little stunt means more attention to the Simpsons, and more demand for the merchandise that all those sweat shop workers are gonna have to work just that bit harder to get out on time.

Amazing how the world works....even with the best of intentions..!!

As I heard recently, the simpsons contract pretty much states that the upper managment aren't allowed to nit-pick a episode to death, I believe Matt Groening had that from the start, if not recently. I'm sure there are some regulations, but I wouldn't be surprised if the show's writers self-regulate so there aren't contract changes.

By the way, I love the fox potshots, Family guy has that too (considering fox dropped them, they got popular, and then fix picked it back up...they, well, kinda deserve it)

Edit; Bansky is a graffiti artist who got popular, buildings with his stuff on them goes up in value. On one hand, his art isn't bad, but on the other, it's pretty generic and not really very interesting, outside "oh, it's outside societys norm because it's graffiti" thing (personal opinion)

Exactly - their contract is very unusual in that respect. Groening got that in there when FOX was still new and desperately searching for ratings. Later on, it was a big bone of contention between Groening and FOX when he was getting Futurama started - the network wanted more control, he wanted the same freedom they had on the Simpsons.

Been a viewer for 22 years

and am well aware of the potshots taken @ Fox. It goes with the territory as they say,and in the 22 seasons is there anything The Simpsons haven't taken a shot at? From big tobacco to the nucular industry it's been always about the laughs but it made you think too. :thmbsp:
