I remember Barzilay from years ago. Beautiful cabinets.
I can see myself (with some help) replacing the innards with my hand picked gear.

The seller says price is firm. Evidently she thinks the components that come with it are special enough to warrant this price.
Never heard of Wolverine speakers.

Anyone care to comment?

I swear i've seen this before, nearly positive it was posted here on AK.

Hard to put a precise value on anything in the current mess that's developing where money is concerned. But in "good times" i'd say the 3 empty Barzilay cabinets are worth the asking. Try building them for 350.

"Wolverine" is an Electrovoice trademark.
 
This listing has been on a local CL for at least three months - maybe more.
I guess the seller is not in any hurry to see this one go. :scratch2:
 
With regard to the source equipment, i doubt it appeals to many of us who have great appreciation for those vintage cabinets. That's not to say that it's not valuable, or doesn't have a dedicated following.

It'd be nice to see a pic of what's in the speaker cabinets, those could be worth the asking alone.

Just the SX 780 can command good money, they range from 30 bucks to 200 on that auction site depending on condition and wind direction.
 
I would guess that it is worth the asking price. The Bogen tuner is tubed, brom the mid 60's. The tape deck is nothing special, but the associated tube preamp is interesting. And given the general time frame, the drivers could easily end up covering most or all of the purchase price. It would certainly be worth a visit if it was local, just to see what were in the speaker cabinets.
 
The cabinet looks like an interesting unit. Barzilay made some of the finest audio furniture and there is a slow growing trend to recognize that the furniture is collectable. I'd not sell my Barzilay for $350 today.

The guts, I'm not sure about but it seems like an interesting system for the price. I'd think it would be worth a listen. The inventory seems a little odd, probably the Pioneer replaced the original unit. If I am reading the advert right there are 2 amps so possibly the speakers are bi-amped.

Or the Pioneer simply replaced the tube gear and everything was left there.
Anyone care to guess how much I can expect to get back if I manage to flip everything in the guts (not counting the speakers)?

And speaking of speakers - are Wolverine/Electrovoice speakers considered desirable/collectible?
I have no idea what to look for there. :scratch2:

Probably wouldn't hazard a guess without a closer look at everything.

I would expect that to provide proper cooling, the case/cabinet for the SX 780 is history.

My advice would be to establish contact with the seller, and see what you can get for answers and additional photos.

If it's local, take a flashlight and digital camera and give it all a good "once over".

The value of a pair of working T-35 wolverine branded tweeters and wolverine branded crossovers alone could account for nearly 2/3 of the asking price.
 
$350 is a fair price. But doubt anyone would buy that oddball collection of gear. The Pioneer seems to be a later addition and I think the Sony amp has tubes.
 
The Sony amp is actually more of a preamp that works with the Sony Tape Deck. It definitely is a tube unit.

I'm not sure if those are the same cabinets or not but I've seen the same Barzilay cabinets I have go for $400. I thought that was too much but I've seen it a couple of times. Here's what you can do with those speaker cabinets.

Too bad the seller seems to think the value of the innards justify the high price he is asking.
His response to my email re working condition of the hardware:
The cabinet was in storage and hasn't been used for some time. Everything is clean and looks good but can't say for sure.
