Bass Response from Infinity Epsilons

I was given Infinity Epsilons, with an SCU, two Lennart Anderson tube power amps (rebuilt by LA in northern Denmark), to drive the mid high end. A Bryston Model 4B power amp to drive the bass. A Parasound PS pre-amp, and California Audio Labs MKII CD player, I'm using my Pioneer PL514 turntable. Yes, that's quite a gift, it's a longtime family friend who is getting older and just was ready to downsize.

In playing my vinyl and CDs the mids and highs are rich sounding, detailed, and what an untrained ear and non-audiophile would expect from great speakers. The bass is very mild, no punch. I'm not looking for a window shattering thump just a bit more bass response.

My question is what steps might help? Turning off the Bryston amp kills what bass response there is. Turning off the SCU degrades the bass response, so I know both those units are working somewhat. I did put the spikes on the speakers to lift them off the floor. I have no options on placement as they are massive speakers, and my wife has limits on where they can sit.

There are three areas I know little about but am considering. 1) Better output cables on the Bryston, the current ones are twisted wire and do not look like the low gauge input cables. There is an option of the Bryston and SCU to use balanced cables if that would help. 2) Swapping out the Parasound for a pre-amp for a Dennon amp that was also included, 3) Manipulating the switches in the back of the speakers. I though before I start mashing switches or buy high end cables, or balanced cables given that I know little about this equipment I thought I'd ask for advice here. Added some pictures.

I remember hearing these speakers at Woodbridge Stereo in NJ when new. They represented the brand and Pass mono amps were driving them.

So stating that, I can tell you that these Infinity’s aren’t like the prior Beta/Delta/Gamma series in the bass department. Instead off being bigger than life and very “west coast” in their bass reproduction, the Epsilon speaker preferred linear and fast. They do go very deep, but don’t have that mid bass slam.

Also, check the SCU, maybe have it re-capped.

I read a review of the IRS Epsilon by a guy who seems to have a similar setup to yours, so he may even be the original owner. In any case, have a read of his journey experimenting with the SCU, as he discovered there are two different versions (Revs) due to the original SCU being an amp killer.
