Bay Area - Turntable Servicing

Hello AKers,

Does anyone here do any servicing of turntables? I just picked up a Pioneer PL-570 last night and want to get it serviced so I can give it to my girlfriend for Christmas.

If no one here does servicing, can you highly recommend anyone in the Bay Area?

Hey CMC,

Sorry I can't help you with finding someone on the board that does Pioneer servicing, one place you might want to check out would be The Sound Well in Berkeley (http://thesoundwell.com/). Since I live up that way, that's the first one that comes to mind. I'm sure that someone in the San Jose area (oldhifiguy?) might be able to help you out. Good luck!

The Soundwell is a great store! I used to shop there all the time when I lived in SF.

Al Lasher Electronics, just down the street on University Ave., is a very cool old school electronics supply store that's been around since 1960. They still have ancient tube testers in the front of the store! I was able to buy NOS styli for my vintage rekkid players in there a few years ago.

You know I tried Sertech for servicing my SX-1250 and not a single thing I asked for to be fixed was fixed. I wasn't really happy with them from my sole experience. I was truly surprised as they are so highly regarded by the folks around here.

what do you want done and I'll tell you if I can/want to do it. there's not alot to do. just oil around and such, maybe greese some gears and set the tonearm

I want it taken apart and cleaned and serviced. Get it the best working condition as possible. I haven't had a chance to really play around with it yet to know if it needs more than that. The few minutes I did play with it, it seemed to not work the way I thought it should. For instance, the arm didn't pick up at the end of the record and reset at the beginning of the record and the controls make it seem like it should.
