Yikes...not again!
I searched the forum for a sub for the BC161. Nothing came up......can anyone recommend a sub?
It is for a Sansui au555a.

Hi, Whereabouts in the AU-555a is the BC161 located, I don't think that it is a factory used component. I have an AU-555a on the bench at the moment, and I can't recall seeing BC161 in it?

Cheers

I assume that 2SC875E's are fitted to TR807/TR808 and not the "flying saucer" CDC8002A's. Early 555a's had the CDC8002a?CDC9002A's fitted, later models (mine included) had 2SC875E/2SA532A's fitted in place of the CDC's. In lower power amps I have used BC639/BC640's to replace the CDC's, and I think that they would be OK in the 555A. If you wanted to up the power rating, you could use TO126 packabe transistor - BD139/BD140, or MJ340/MJ350 (both pairs have been used to replace the CDC's in the AU999 with good results). The BC161 looks to be OK in that position. I would change out TR807/TR808 with the matching NPN complements to the sub for TR809/TR810.

OK,

The general opinion is that the CDC "flying saucers" should be replaced as they are known to fail

CDC8002 - NPN, TR803, TR804, TR807, TR808 - use either BC639, BD139 or MJ340

CDC9002 - PNP, TR809, TR810 - use either BC640, BD139 or MJ350

Keep the same series, don't mix BC with BD etc.

Cheers

John

I have mj340/350's.........I'll use them.
On another note.....my buddy who brought it in wants lower-value resistors on the phone output. Stock value is 470 ohms.........he wants 200 ohm's in there....is that ok?

I'm not sure re the headphone resistors. It won't harm the amp but I can't guarantee what it might do the the headphones or his ears!!

Ok.....I need a sub for 2sc627. I searched the forum....and I hit BF299....I do not have any of those......any ksc/ksa equivalents? Thanks.

I would also like to change the diodes d001/002..........in the SM they are listed as 10D-1 .............what subs can be used in there place? I have searched the forum...came up empty. Thanks.
