I just got a Kenwood 650T, is the same tuner as the 600T just different color. I guess the previous owner cut off the edges, dont ask me why.

here are some pics

Is there anything I can place around the edges of the tuner to make it decent looking ?

1. Repaint the cover after removing the rust.
2. use fine files or sandpaper to get the edge reasonably smooth.

It looks like someone wanted to get rid of the overhang at the edge to either fit it in a cabinet or get rid of rack mount slots. You could always build another cabinet.

Think I'd try finding someone with a machine shop to dress the edges. Also find someone with a bead blaster to get that sheet metal perfectly clean. But make sure you have a plan for painting in place before starting. Bead blasting leaves a perfect finish for primer. It's just rough enough to give it something to grab. But with the metal being steel, it will start rusting immediately if there's any humidity...thus the need to get primer in place right away.

I recomend you remove the front face, and have it finished on a simple belt sander, vertically (it will result in same finish as the upper side of face plate).
Use masking tape to prevent scratches on the front!.

If you can find an original Kenwood wood cabinet that fits, that might hide most of the damage.

A good idea!. The missing front face sides would show the wood cab's joints tho, maybe?. This gave me an idea tho; like the Kenwood wood sides that were availlable back then, have some custom made, that would have recesses, on their internal faces, so they would hide all of the defects, including the crappy front face cuts!

As fate would have it, the listing for the 650 here

https://fmtunerinfo.com/Kenwood650T.jpg

has this image with a wood case. An internet search does not reveal any 600 photos with a wooden case, not even in an ad or brochure.

Good luck!

I don't know whether they ever made a rack-mount version of this, or whether the Original Poster would like that, but if you could swap in a new front panel, the rack-mount brackets could hide the sides.
