Alright so I got some PSB image 4t towers used and noticed right off the bat that they sounded terrible contrary to all the fantastic reviews. I ended up tracing the issue to the tweeters. Seeing that stock replacements aren't available and if they are are far more than I want to pay I was curious if they could be repaired. I'm not completely sure what the issue is though. I've heard a bit that those old ferrofluid tweeters can go bad. The tweeters in both towers are bad, and the one in the center channel that goes with them is good. The guy I bought em from said they worked great when he last used em but they hadn't been in use 4-5 years. They do read 4.6 ohms when I tested them and they did produce sound when I tested them directly into my receiver but I had to bring the volume quite high to get discernable audio. The tweeter in the center channel had audible sound at the lowest volume. Are these speakers blown, or would dry ferrofluid cause the output to drop that drastically? Would replacing the ferrofluid, assuming I could, fix the problem or should I just try to find a different replacement?

Hardened ferrofluid could certainly make tweeter do that.
It will restrict travel of the voice coil.
That said , I can't promise replacing will cure your ill. Certainly worth a shot IMO
Also you've done your testing. I wouldn't do it again until you fix. Passing high power through tweeter vc could fry the coil and then you're out of luck.
