OK, here's a weird question...
Someone near and dear to me has a pair of KEF LS50 (the older version, not the META).
He's been playing them from a 30 year old Marantz AV receiver. I suggested to him that the receiver may be getting sluggish power supply issues from drying out electrolytic caps, etc.
I have a Behringer A800 amp I'm not currently using, which I could lend to him, so he could hear if a 150Wpc app wakes up his LS50s to the point where he falls in love with them again.
My question:
Do you think the lowly Behringer A800 Class D amp will do justice to hallowed KEF LS50?
Or is it not enough amp to drive the LS50s notably better than a 30 year old home theater receiver?
I found the A800 amp drives my old Snell speakers with a really firm grip, but sounds a little 'icy' in the presence region and higher (2kHz and up), at least compared to the Hafler P1000 I have, or my 6Wpc push-pull tube amp. However, the A800 is really good for the little bit of money it cost. But is it worth to drive a pair of LS50s?
