Bent Stylus

I was just looking at the stylus on my brand new Ortofon OMB5e cartridge and discovered it looked bent out of shape. I dropped the stylus when it was being a bit of a pain in the ass and refused to come out. Could this have affected the stylus.

I can't tell if the stylus itself is bent, but it seems that the cantilever seems to have a bit of a twist to it. I'd imagine this would cause tracking difficulties andone channel being favored over the other and possible groove damage.

As to how to fix it, I have no idea.

I wonder

I wonder if you could adjust the azimuth slightly to compensate ? How much is a replacement ?

If in doubt, just buy a new stylus. It would be false value to risk damaging your records trying to fix it, or just using it anyway.

Seeing it's only a couple days old i'm going to attempt to return it and get a replacement.

a very good idea. also, the stylus doesn't bend....the cantilever does, and the cantilever on your cartridge does appear to have a little twist in it. definitely return it.

Looks like it has some azimuth issues, and a ball of garbage hanging from it based on the last pic.

Did you drop it on carpet? If so, maybe it got slightly tangles in the fibers and got caught, causing the bend when you picked it up?
