Beovox S45 - Type 6302 HT S45

Hi everyone, I've just joined auditokarma having found it by googling regarding the below.

I have stumbled across the below speakers in the back of one of the junk shops in town and managed to take a picture of the back of the speakers. I do not want to spend a lot of money and therefore look into older speakers with a decent sound. Does anyone have thoughts on the below?

The thread refers to the S45-2 (except a small remark from 'justw' quoted below)

Would it be possible to get further insight? I am currently working abroad and look into getting an adequate solution without getting all my stuff from "back home".
A possibility I considered was to get this speaker, a 2 Pin adapter (which I believe would be required) and an adapter to either red/white or 3.5mm male adapter.

If this is getting to basic for this forum (appreciating my questions are probably most basic) just drop me a hint. All comments appreciated

I have p45 which is somewhat similar in sound but made flat for hanging on a wall

I have their big brothers, the S75's. They do just about everything right, with plenty of tight bass and smooth mids and highs. The S45's are supposed to be a little more accurate, so they are a little more sought after. Grab them when you go back, you shouldn't be disappointed.

They wouldn't make a bad first set of vintage speakers. I've owned the S75 and the M70. The M70 was better, but I felt in general that they both look better than they sound. They didn't do anything wrong, but I found that similarly priced models from Polk, Infinity, JBL, Boston Acoustics, and others bettered them in dynamics and clarity. Haven't heard the S45 though. Maybe that one's got some magic.

I don't want to dissuade you, especially if the price is right. But Polk Monitor 7 or better yet SDA 2B, Infinity RS6000, Boston A100, JBL L46, etc could all be had for the same price or less and would be a significant upgrade. But finding vintage speakers is all about what is available at the time. The S45 are available to you now, and they would be a fine speaker to get started with.

And to answer your question, yes, you need special speaker wires to use the S45 with any other receiver other than a B&O, and you can easily play music from your phone or MP3 player with a simple RCA (red/white) to 3.5mm adapter, as you said.
