Recently I've bought the B&O Beomaster 5500 for 57$ together with the remote Beolink 1000. For repair. I've spent the same sum for repair and... I'm impressed by the sound. I have pretty many apms, japanese, american, european, handmade etc. The main advantage is that B&O Beomaster 5500 is very comfortable, it can be listened for hours for pleasure. And it's pretty friendly for many acoustics and music materials. To listen for «The Birthday Massacre» is very nice, it's comfortable and emotional. Very many amps are cannot play these band at all. The B&O Beomaster 1000 (type 2301) easily beaten by 5500. Of course, the 5500 is not perfect: 1) he's having some insufficient of speed, 2) plays string ugly (probably cause of point 1), 3) details are could be more. But i'm very confused with his combination of design, price and sound. Many popular amps much more expensive are no match for him. I've spent a lot of time by reading forums and found some interesting information. According that, the B&O 5000 (types 2321, 2322, 2323, 2324, 2325, 2329) is the best from 5000 family (Beomasters 5000, 5500, 6500, 7000) due to: a) better preamp, b) doesn't have the C215, 216, 415, 416 capacities (are doesn't figure in Service Manual). These caps are can be easily removed in 5500+ receivers and it should change playing from "dead, slow, unnatural" to "natural, fast, rich". But the preamp part of 5000 is completely different from 5500+ and the 1s one is better.
With 5000 family everything is easy if you like 'em: remove unneeded caps or better to take the 5000 for to do nothing and get the best of 'em. But what about the slim "1900 Family" (1900, 3300, 4500 etc)? Or 4400? If i'm need in speed, detail and comfort, which of these families is the best? I also have the Siemens Klangmeister RS12 (completely different from RS10 and Elac 3200), it's the best amps ever: fastest, very comfortable, very detailed, very rich, but it's just a 10Wpc by 4Ohm and it's usually too low.
