Without a doubt my best bike was a '72 BMW R75/5, closely followed by a '73 Honda CB 750, one of a line of bikes that just about killed Harley. I'd had too much experience with English cars to try English bikes. (Three little words for people who'd scoff at that: Lucas electrical systems.) My first "real" bike was a CB 450, although previously I had a Suzuki two-stroke for about a week.

You could ride the BMW forever. The Honda was an all-around sweet bike that could run with anything.

The area around Syracuse is ideal for bikes, beautiful and green. Well, except for when it's freezing, like October until June, but you get the idea. We have flat, straight roads to the north, curves and hills to the south.

'81 Yamaha XJ750 Seca.

Going on 13 years with the bike.
Started out with 10K on the odometer, now over 10X that.
Other than having to disassemble and clean the doggy Hitachi carbs every other year, the bikes been virtually bullet-proof.

73 Kawasaki 903 Z fastest thing on the planet then .
except for Kawasaki 750 triple that could beat it in the quarter .
Z1 was scary had a nasty high speed wooble .
 
The best bike I've owned is my current one, an 03 SV1000S.

Smooth power delivery, good handling, more than fast enough, and it just feels balanced to me.

My last bike was an FZR600. Fun little bike. Much smaller than the sv, and a nice canyon carver for its era. No stock steering damper though, and it was prone to tank slappers. Nice power in the mid range for a 600 in the early 90s, but nothing like the bigger twin I have now.

My best bike was my Suzuki GS1000, but my most fun one was the beater 1972 Yamaha R5 350 I bought from a friend for $200.

Laverda 1000s were eating them up on both the street and strip. I had a Guzzi back then and hung around with Italian bike guys; Guzzis, Ducatis, Laverdas, MV Augustas and such. Those 4 cylinder MV 750s sounded like B-17s over Berlin.
 
My current bike a Suzuki VL 1500LC intruder, great cruiser plenty of power and with its comfy Corbin aftermarket seat just a joy to cruise..... dang you guys for this thread! now you have me joneson to go for a putt but we still have snow on the ground here!!
 
1977 RD400 was my only bike. Great fun stock, then swapped in RD350 pistons, expansion chambers, hot coils, rearsets, etc. Wish I hadn't sold it.
 
3 Hondas- 1973 CB750- great, fun bulletproof bike and two 1986 VFR705F bikes- bulletproof and fun save the fuel pumps, I have had two or three pumps go down in the few years I have had both. The 73 gets many compliments and the 86's get a few also to people in the know.
 
First bike was a '71 BMW R50/5 in May 1971. Next a '78 R100RS in November 1977. The R50 was a compromise since I couldn't afford the 30% bump to the R75. The RS was wonderful but pinged its ass off on pump gas. Now I own a '68 R69US for its aesthetic appeal, a '72 R60/5 in red because I always loved them in red, '66 R27 in white just because, and an '81 R100CS. The CS is my favorite bike in over 40-years of riding. I'll keep it as long as it'll have me!

Lucas - Prince of Darkness

Yeah, ever wonder why Jaguars were always in the shop....Lucas!

My first bike was a 66-68 BSA 250 single built from several basket cases.

Second bike was a GS750 which was a lot of fun but I sold it to get a 1975 Norton Commando which I loved and had for many years.

After getting tired of Mr Lucas, I sold the Norton and bought a new Suzuki Intruder 750, the year they came out.

I had that bike for a whopping 6 days before I got run down at 7am while about to turn into the parking lot where I worked after riding an hour that morning.

If I had not been wearing a shield, I would have no face now as i was hit from behind and thrown forward over the bike, landed on my face and hands and slid 2 feet shredding the mask.

That was the last time I rode.

That was too much bike for me in my riding days. I weighed 135 pounds and had to dance in a rainstorm to get wet. I also had problems with my joints' connective tissue so I had problems when I stopped, because my legs would fold at odd moments.

Nothing could fix it. I was getting carved for that pre-1975, so my knees look like I lost a knife fight with a midget.
 
I wish I still had my '84 Honda V45 Sabre. It had a carb jet kit and tuned exhaust and would fly but was comfy enough for hours.
