Best cartridge match for Thorens TD160 MKII

I have a TD160 MKII that I am about to do some tweaking to, nothing serious. I plan on replacing the bottom plate, maybe dynamat the under side, add some spiked adjustable feet and maybe change out the RCA's. It is currently equipped with a Stanton 681 (not sure which stylus) and it sounds pretty good. I have in my arsenal a Shure V15 type III with an Ed Saunders stylus and an AT15sa cartridge that is in need of a stylus. Any recommendations as to which would be best suited for my Thorens?

It's a low mass arm (7.5g) and all the cartridges you mentioned are good matches and excellent cartridges to boot. They are all high compliance, meaning that the styli have a soft spring cantilever and require low tracking forces. It will be a matter of experimenting for yourself, but for starters, use the one with the newest stylus. All factors being equal, the V15 would be my first choice, but again it boils down to personal preference.

Thanks Howard, I will give them both a try and see which one I like best. Do you have a recommendation as to which alignment protractor works best for the Thorens tables. I have used the Baerwald so I am familiar with it, but is there others that are better suited?

If you can get the baerwald to work on the MK2 then it will give you the least average distortion. Look at the graphs & Note the 3 protractors hit the 1/3rd playing position at near the same point. The Loefgren gives the least distortion after this point but is worse than the Baerwald for the first third. (hence on average Baerwald is better)
