Greetings all, happy new year. I am in a bit of a pickle at the moment and could use some help. I currently have a few items in various states of disrepair and would like to hear a few opinions on what items I should fix first for a nice listening experience. I will be listening to the system on a pair of Stephens Trusonic 80fr (full range in their original cabinets, no crossover etc). The receivers and TTs in question:
-Kenwood KD 650 with serious motor problems. Turn it on and it goes crazy, might need recapped, might need circuitry work, I don't know.
-Empire 598, it was missing the tonearm cable (why I snagged it for 40$), I finally found a suitable din adapter so I can have a cable made.
-Marantz 2216b, needs a cleaning and some new fuses soldered in (at best), possibly recapped.
-Harmon Kardon 430, pots need cleaned and possible recap.
-I also have a pair of Klipsch kg 4.2 that have been re edged but either a driver needs replaced or the crossover needs to be replaced on one. I haven't investigated that much.
I have read that the HK 430 sounds really nice with tube era speakers, it is also more powerful and I should think, a better amp for the 4.2s should I want to switch things up. I think empires were of superior build quality, but the arm really doesn't match the quality of the rest of the unit. I also love the look and it fits in with my MCM decor.
Basically, what would you recommend? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. I intend to get everything working at some point, but I only have space for one setup...the rest I will probably just sell, trade, store, or make a nice setup for my brother. All the best.
Graham
