Best Crossover Replacement for La Scala?

I am looking into replacing my original TYPE AL crossovers on my La Scalas.

I was wondering which to get, the TYPE A, TYPE AA, or TYPE AL 3 from Crites

Also, a few friends have strongly suggested in buying the TYPE A 4500hz with the CT125 tweeters from Crites.

Anyone use these in their la scalas? Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

What kind of music do you listen to?

At what levels typically?

I ask this cause simpler ones often sound better from low to moderately loud.

Moderately loud to very loud you may prefer the ES as Coytee has suggested.

What many people don't realize is that even ALK himself will tell you that his ES networks were designed to go really loud! and are not as good at lower volume to mid levels.

Myself I'm in the moderate volume levels meaning low 90db at my chair I do like some material that will exceed 100db at my chair.

Also what kind of gear are you using?

Myself I really like the simplicity of the ALK Jr. Network because I can then afford to really put some very high subjective parts in.

If you go with Klipsch networks you will not have any control of the mid volume levels as you would with the ALK.

I know someone that went with the JR here and is using very state of the art parts for his LaScala's, He also chose to use 8AWG Air Core Inductors as I do for their great control and warmth.

looks like he only does xovrs for the big klipsch. No worries tho, I only need the coils for the next upgrade on my KG4s
 
Yeah thats right ferninando, just the Heritage line. He offers kits for the Forte which is the smallest he offers.

I'm a pretty big fan of his, I'm not necessarily crazy over all of his work but for LaScala's, my ears tell me his networks are the way to go. Otherwise myself I can't listen long to a LaScala's even with subs.

I use Crites' A/4500 networks and CT125's. They are a huge improvement over the stock components, and well worth the money. I still want to get ALK universals though someday.

I'm running those on my Klipschorns. Subtle improvement under most listening programs, but it completely eliminated the occasional nasal rasp I'd hear in a female vocal (due to the extended lower range of the CT125s). Not a small thing! :thmbsp:

To the chagrin of others, :D

It might be worth noting: If you are in upgrade mode then I've got to say that you might also look into converting your LaScalas into 2-way speakers. Do a search here or on the K forum for "JubeScala" and do some reading.

I'm not saying it's cheap... I'm not saying it's what you're currently looking for. What I am however saying is, if you end up walking down the path of some new crossovers, perhaps some new horns.... it might be worth knowing about the upgrade to the JubeScala.

I've owned LaScalas for 30+ years. I've owned AA crossovers and now ALK extreme slopes.

I don't say this lightly.... the change to a JubeScala, though more expensive, will leave virtually all the other upgrades you can do, behind. Just so you know, virtually ALL the engineering has been done by Klipsch. It's simply a matter of writing a check, getting the parts and putting it together.

I'm going to go with the Type A 4500 and Crites CT125 Tweeters.

Somewhere down the road, I will be looking into the JubScalas and Cornscalas.. but probably with a different pair of LS.
 
very good choice. I went with the A/4500 XOvers and CT-125 tweeters a few years ago. Nice upgrade and not to spensive either.

Maybe down the line, Crites also has an nice Atlas mid driver you may consider. I did and really like it.

After reading years worth of your posts I am eventually going this route too. If you write it, concerning Klipsch, so it shall be. Not sure if you know Jack sheet about anything else. JK

My crossover upgrades of Type A 4500hz and CT125 tweeters for my La Scalas have been put on hold..

Since last week when I bought a pair of Heresys for my dad, I've got the itch to get a pair of my own. And Cornwalls as well.

In the meantime, my dad is making room in his living room for a potential hunt for KHorns.

The bug was bad before.. and it just got worse.
 
If it were me, I'd do the upgrades, scrap the Heresey idea and still shoot for the Cornwalls. At least, with Cornwalls you may decide to make them into cornscalas down the road. But hey, that's JMO
 
^^ You're right. The Mrs. talked me out of buying more speakers, and told me to upgrade the xovers on our current ones (LaScala) first, before venturing into other speakers.

But I just want to have the whole family of Klipsch Heritage.. is that too much to ask? Lol.
