Best Demagnetizer for TEAC A-3340S?

I need to clean the heads on my R2R and want to do it the right way. I’ve heard bad things about vintage demagnetizes but have also heard that the expensive ones are overhyped and not necessary. Is there a specific model for the A-3340S I should seek out?

Well, you probably know that cleaning and demagging are two different things, but it's hard to tell from how you worded it. Anyway, I don't know why any functioning demagger would not work if used properly. I have several, and quite a few decks, including a 3340S. It's fun to have a nice one from the same manufacturer. The Teac E-3 is heavy and solid, has a power switch, and a swivel tip that helps you get close to all the metal parts in the tape path.

I use the Teac E-3 and it does a great job. I think you can still purchase this but not sure.

Yep. I have one for my Akai from Akai, one for my Teac from Teac and one for my Nak decks from Nakamichi. Why? Because it adds to the overall package of goods for the deck and the experience. Are all three needed? Not really...

The Han-D-mag works great. Only issue is it does not have a switch which is actually needed to do the job right. I added a chord switch to mine.

Look for a nortronics head demag unit on ebay. They work well, and have a plastic covered tip to prevent mechanical head damage.

The Han-D-mag works great. Only issue is it does not have a switch which is actually needed to do the job right. I added a chord switch to mine.

Also been using a Han-D-Mag for 20+ years, have always followed the long-standing procedure of bringing it into the deck slowly, then moving away slowly when done with the demag process. What benefit would the switch provide ?

I have always used the method to bring the tip very near the heads and then turn it on working in circular motion around the head and transport area and then slowly away about 3 + feet before turning it off.

I also use a magnameter to check for any concern areas.
