I like E90F mesh plates, and Sylvania 1958 6cg7's - these are excellent in my 8 and 8b.
 
I've tried the EH (Electro Harmonix) and the Russian Mullards. I found the Eh to sound detailed, but I felt that it was because of a treble emphasis that focused more attention on treble detail. Overall they sounded thinner than the Mullards, which have the lush warm sound that I expect from an 8b. So the Mullards are in the 8b and the EH's are on the shelf.
