Best headphone rrecommendation

So im looking for the best sounding, biggest soundstage headphones in the 500- $1000 range. I've looked at the sennheiser hd 700 and 800s and audeze lcd 2 but im not sure what else is out there and what the best is. Suggestions/reviews would be appreciated

Why don't you order one of those you listed from one of the places that offer a 30 day eval period? Actually listening to them will tell you more about how they sound TO you. Just a thought.

Yeah but I find I need to burn in my headphones for awhile before they really sound good. Im leaning more towards the sennheisers. I have a pair of HD 598 right now and I like them but I have good equipemt and good music and want to take the next step up
 
The HD800s are quite bright.the LCD 2s are almost polar opposites...both are good headphones just completely and entirely at different ends of the spectrum.

If soundstage is a priority you can cross the LCD 2 s off of your list.not bad,but certainly not great.

Others to consider are the Beyer T1s...huge soundstage and imaging that can be so exact at times its distracting.

Also most AKG offerings are known for their soundstage.

Are the T1s easy on the ears? something else im looking for are headphones that are comfortable. I think at this point I have narrowed it down between the Sennheiser HD 800, the Grado GS1000e, and the Beyer T1s. what are the defining characteristics of each?
 
yeah theyre quite comfortable,but bright,but then again so are HD800s,perhaps even more so.

Lots of reviews of the two on youtube you can watch
 
I feel that the Sennheiser HD 650's have a fuller sound stage and allot more definition and separation between musical instruments and vocals compared to the HD 800's.

I'm a big vintage AKG high impedance headphone fan,so that's where my recommendation usually goes.

Just need the proper gear to drive them for best results,that's all.

My K240DF's rule the roost these days,with the K240 Sextetts & Realistic Pro50 (AKA: K250) tied for the #2 spot.

I drive 'em with a NAD 106 preamp connected to my desktop PC via a Parasound D/AC-1000 (via TOSLINK).

That rig could be easily duplicated for much less than 1k I'm sure.

I would read up on Various STAX Earspeakers. I love my pairs. They are getting on in years, but show no sign of degradation. Maybe you can find a good preowned pair with in your budget. They are the open cavity type. Closed type, Koss use to make a version of the ESP.9 you might enjoy. Signet made a nice moderately price of electro static, too. I have had different Sennheisers over the years, AKG, and Beyer. Some of the Beyers are really quite nice. But Electrostatics are my choice. They don't play as loud as dynamics, but I find the reproduction to be the best.

Curious,since you have a Sabbath album as your avatar and you list the K240DFs as your preferred headphone over the Sextetts,what is it about the DFs that you like over the Sextetts for rock/metal?

I own all three versions of the Sextetts,with the MP version being my co-goto metal headphone,along with my ATH AD2000s(non X version)

I'd hafta say the DF's give an ever-so-slightly better "headstage" than the Sextetts and/or the Pro50 (K250).
Honestly though,with a dash of EQ tweaking they're all EXTREMELY close to each other,so much so to be 100% interchangeable.
But that said the DF's are also harder to dirve than any of the other AKG's I have,so they NEED a good strong source driving them.

And yeah,the bulk of my regular listening material is some fairly heavy music,Deftone,Melvins,Slayer,juust to name a few.

What i like most about the sextetts are the aggressive forward presentation of guitars.I have never heard Priest,Accept and others sound so......MEAN!

What I dont like about them is the grain I hear in upper mids/lower highs.

Do the DFs share the same characteristics?

Also what is a fair price for a DF?
