Best Headphones under $100?

I have a lady friend who happens to be a new audio enthusiast. I’m looking for a little input on what you feel are the best sounding headphones under $100. She listens to a variety of music. She listened to friends Bose headphones and now has the audio enthusiast itch. Remember this is a 40 year young hip woman, so please take aesthetics into consideration.

Couldn't be any further from the truth! LOL!! Just be careful which you choose if the headphone cable length, detach-ability, microphone, home or portable use, etc. are of major concern. (Of course they all are!) :music:

The vintage AKG 240's, (Made in Austria) are nice sounding, light on the head, and look good. They are 600 ohms, so not a great choice for laptop, or MP3, or cell phone use. Only because they won't get loud.

Plus maybe some Miller effect? My headphone amp has multiple impedance taps. Choosing an impedance too far from the headphone impedance also seems to effect the tone. Like high end roll off, ect.
 
I was in the local Guitar Center a couple of weeks ago with my son. While he was buy parts for a Clone Fender Strat rebuild I wandered over to the Headphone display. I listened to the AKG 240's and was mightily impressed, but I came home with a pair of AKG K52's ( Closed Backed ) that came close to the 240's sound and were on sale for $30.

I'm listening to them now on my laptop and they are quite nice.

I’m seeing a lot of recommendations here for the AKG-240. I watched a YouTube review stating they lack any bass. I’m not sure how accurate the review from Z-Reviews is or he just prefers bass heavy headphones. The black headphones look nice with their gold accents and lettering. The gold trim on the AKG 240s seemed to have a good WAF (Woman acceptance factor) when I showed them to her.

I may order a pair and “test” them out prior to giving them to her to make sure they can be driven with an iPhone 7 Plus. That’s what she’ll be using them on until I convince her an external DAC (Dragonfly Red) will make a big difference.

If you need to over do the bass like many seen to prefer I would agree. I found them fairly nature sounding in the bass dept. If using with an iPhone get a low impedance version.
