Best Process to Level Up Headphones?

FWIW: I now have at the house:

  1. Grado SR80x
  2. Sennheiser 6XX
  3. HiFiman 560 v4
  4. Audeze LCD-1
  5. Sony MDR-7506
I'm going iPhone 6+ through a DragonFly Red with Deezer.

This is really a blast trying out all this stuff.

Problem is... so far, everything sounds good. Just different.
Best bet is to make a mix of the music you like and listen to each pair for about 2 hours straight. Chances are you will tear a pair or two off your head before that time is up-either from something about the sound that irritates you or the comfort. Does not matter what we like, just what you like.

Audio-Technica ATH-AD series open back are nice. Efficient and comfortable. I like the ATH-AD1000X and 2000X phones.

I actually really like this method. Thanks for the idea. You're right, some HP's I just don't want on my head longer than a few songs. Others I forget they're on and just listen to music and enjoy it. That said, 2 hours is awhile - I do start to need to take all of them off after about this long, my ears need a break after awhile no matter how good the headphones are.

As an update I've traded in and out and am currently zeroed in on:

HD6XX
HiFiMan Sundara
Audeze LCD-2 Classic

I really like all of these- the others went back for one thing or another that I didn't love.

You are right, 2 hours is a long time. Point is, if you can make it through 2 hours, you have a winner.
