Hello to all. I'm new to the forums because I just discovered this wonderful site.
I'm from Split (Croatia), an electrical engineer, and I work as a IT operating engineer for a big electricity company.
I've been an audio enthusiast since 80's years (of past century, of course). I'm a big Marantz fan but appreciate other famous brands, especially Sansui.
I love "to take a look" inside any component (equipped with service manual, soldering iron and parts). I'm just waiting a parts for modifying one beautifully Marantz PM350.
What else? Oh, yes... I apologize in advance for my English. it's not my native language.

I'm glad that you know about Tesla. He is very popular lately, but not the only one. There's more ingenious people from my country. Some of them are:
Slavoljub Eduard Penkala (constructor of the airplanes, developer of the mechanical pencil), Roger Boskovich, (astronomer, scientist...), Lavoslav Ruzicka (Nobel prize, chemistry), Ivo Andric (Nobel prize, writer), Dragutin Novak (first Croatian pilot in 1909.!), Rade Serbedzija (an actor, just now in USA)... and many others.
At last, our fist hydroelectric power plant began operations in 1875., only TWO DAYS after that one on Niagara Falls. And it was a 3-phase AC power plant. It still works on the same place!

That's amazing to know!! I learned a good bit about Tesla in my Electrical Technology program I took in college. He is a very underrated scientist! A website was trying to raise money to buy the land where his factory was here in America and I believe they raised enough to buy the land AND fund a museum in his honor. Neat, huh? :)

I will defintely look up these other people from your country! EDIT: I DID look these people up! Amazing minds!

On a trip years ago intending to drive down the entire Croatian coast from my place in Germany, I stopped in Senj for a night and had so much fun with the people I met that I stayed for the entire week and didn't make it any further. My son spend some time last summer on the islands near Zadar and enjoyed it a lot. Beautiful area, nice people and good food - and lots of slivovitz.
