best series receivers ????

zosoisme

Band of Brothers Pal
I need "from the gut" endorsements as to which sansui line of receivers are in your opinions best all around for those of us who cannot fix all the things you guys can.......so, of these 3: 9090, G7700, G8000..... which of the 3 are easiest to work on, least finicky, least expensive to repair ( figuring that if it's too complex that computes to extra labor = more $$$ )and has the best track record for just up and running ???? I got too much stuff, gonna thin the ranks, but my decision of which to keep will be based partially on that info..... ( and I dont wanna here "yeah the xxxxx is the worst...get rid of that piece 'o junk........ by the way, I might be able to take it off your hands though, if you pay to ship it !!! lol..):scratch2: thanks, zosoisme :D

THis is a tall order and bound to get a responder into trouble - somewhere down the line :scratch2: .

I don't have experience with the G-x700 line but I do with the x0x0 and the G-x000 line of receivers.

I think that the x0x0 are likely the easier to work on with strong chassis and straight forward circuit designs. The G-x000 series can be very difficult when trying to access the innards - especially when you get to the G-8000 and up.

On the other hand, I find that the G-x000 line are very robust operationally.

That's my $0.02 worth but perhaps one of the real experts will jump on this thread.

Paul

Consider the G8000-9000 series the GrandPrix model, followed by lesser divisions in the 7000 and lower,

The g8700-9700 is where pure horsepower alone isn't enough to win races. Also the point were build quaility and parts already have begun to lessen.

The 9090 is the precurser to the Gx000 and the build is straight forward and reliable albeit not as powerful.

Lately, there appears to be a run on the Gx000 & Gx700 series on ebay driving prices up significantly. some in the 500-600+ range!

Hope that helps you. :thmbsp:

I'll second Paul's assessment. The 9090 is easier to work on but the G-8000 is a better receiver. The G-7700 with its digital readout is more complex than the 9090 and maybe the G-8000.

thanks guys, that's just the kind of opinions I was hoping for really. Based on what I've been reading here on AK, your opinions fall right in line with what I've been getting a feel for...the x0x0 series are still my favorites all around anyway, and I dont really "warm up" to the digital diplay of the Gx700's anyway (ya gotta have meters 'n needles !!! period !!) so I just might grab a cheapie G2000 or 3000 to keep lit up just 'cause they're pretty to look at.......thanks for your input guys, my decisions are easy now........you're the best, like having cool uncles or big brothers to lean back on, and I mean that sincerely, not corny ... Many Thanks.........

And yet you have that disgusting 'thing' at the bottom of all your messages. Do I sense a 'button pusher' looking for a skirmish?

The Creature from the End of the Internet is a Tradition!

And has nothing to do with Vintage audio per se. No, not at all, though I guess the truth can be unsettling. -pfc

How could you go from comparing a 9090, G-7700, or a G-8000 to settling for a G-2000 or G-3000? Everyone must feel you got good advise but went astray. Your "uncles" are disappointed of your 180 degree turn.

I have a 7700 and a 8000, but now I'll sell them and keep my 8080 and 9090's.... but I do like that silver look of the 8000, so a cheapie 2000 might help me remember when I was smart enough to own an 8000 while it was about the same time I was stupid enough to sell it ..... there, I said it......happy now ???? lol.......... I have to get rid of stuff or make more room, and at 58, my energy level to build more room is gone......plus I have both an 8080 and a 9090 parts unit....no spare anything for the others and I get pissed easily when somebody hands me a mortgage application if I bring a big "G" in for work....... :tears:

anbody know who uses the avatar of the little kid smoking a butt ???? I think it's hilarious, seen it 5-6 times but forgot where....I only visit here and pioneer, so that oughta narrow it......If this goes against any kind of protocol, just ignore it and excuse me....zosoisme

I thought you were asking which was better so you could buy one. Now I understand the need to get one of it's children!

ahh yes "need indeed".......If I do put my big guys up for sale I'll offer them first here on AK, as "good homes" matter to me more than $$$ these days.... :music:
