Best Sounding Guitarist

How about Alvin Lee from Ten Years After.I have NEVER,and I am 49 years old, never heard anyone that could play "I'm Going Home"note per note.Back twenty or so years ago when some guy that thought he could play, and alot of these guys were pretty good, ask what song do you want to here, all you had to say was "i'm going Home" by Alvin Lee and they would just walk away. :)

Every name mentioned so far is fantastic, and I second all of them... But I gotta say boys, there's one that's missing. Angus would having nothing to riff on if it weren't for Malcolm Young. He may only have one sound, but that sound IS AD/DC!

joe satriani , steve vai, eric johnson, john lee hooker, les paul, srv, hendrix,
rory gallagher, bb king, neil young ,steve morse, blackmore, axel rudi pell,.....

Yeah, I know he said Rock guitarists, but I had to have some fun.

BTW, Duane Eddy and Les Paul were Rock guitarists.

As for Alvin Lee, as Mance Lipscomb once told a friend of mine, "Son, that's a whole lot of notes but it ain't got no feelin'."

This discussion should begin and end with Stevie Ray Vaughan. He's the best there ever was.

Well, this is a tough one. I've been looking through some of my back issues of The Tonequest Report for inspiration and hereby would suggest Phil Brown, Jimbo (James) Mathis, and Billy Gibbons as candidates. Then, looking through my CDs and records, I have to give a nod to Charlie Whitney of Family and Streetwalkers; Albert Lee (he was a rocker back with Heads, Hands, and Feet); Peter Green and Danny Kirwan (before Fleetwood Mac became a top 40 band); the versatile Chris Spedding; and, finally, to Phil Manzanera, who has quite a knack for making a guitar unleash some rather interesting soungs.

RITCHIE BLACKMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:guitar:
And might I add, Joe Perry
and if you go back to his Rounder releases, George Thorogood.

Can't disagree with that! By Malcolm doing what he does allows Angus to do what he does!

Who was the main guitar sound for the Early days of DIO?

That was some great rocking riffs!
