Best speakers for Yamaha CR-420 in a small apartment?

I have a fully-professionally-restored CR-420 receiver and wondering if anyone has advice on a great speaker pairing that won’t break the budget (under $500/pair, preferably under $200/pair) that will be a nice fit? I currently have some Bose 201 series V and they sound really hollow/tinny in the mid range, especially with fm tuner. Any advice from Yamaha enthusiasts?

What kind of music do you listen to? I wonder if you could find NS-10s in that price range. Where are you located?
 
First of all welcome to AK. Second, most of us will listen to a selection of speakers and buy depending on what we've heard and liked. Speakers are sufficiently different that what I like you may hate and vice versa. Buy whatever sounds good to you. There is no better advice than that.

There are no speakers that are designed for or sound better through a Yamaha amplifier/receiver. This includes the highly rated Yamaha NS series.

FWIW: I have no axe to grind about anything from Yamaha. A Yamaha AV receiver is connected to a 5.1 speaker setup in my bedroom.

If (and it's a big if) you could find a pair of early Polk Audio Monitor 4 loudspeakers (with Peerless tweeters)... those'd be nice. Monitor 5 or 5jr would be good, too.

That era of Yamaha receivers and integrated amplifiers mated very nicely with the Polk products of the era.

Not as common in Boston, though, as they were (are) in the mid-Atlantic, given Polk's genesis in Baltimore.

How 'bout a pair of EPI 100 family members? They're common up here, and not expensive, and pretty darned good.
