Best Speakers with Low WPC Receiver

If you like a lot of classical music, the Heresy may be better. A decent subwoofer helps.

No one has mentioned the Large Advent, or New Large Advent (NLA). You could do a lot worse. I still have two pair and they also played great on the little Pioneer.

I really think I'm either gonna try a pair of KLH 5's, an ADS 520 or 710, or Imperial 6's. It's good to know that the 5's don't suffer with a low wattage amp!

And about the OLA/NLA, I think a lot of people overprice them around where I live and the more I read, the KLH or Imperials seem to be better bets, and imo look a lot nicer

Ooh that's way cheaper than other ones I've found in the area (for 180!). Yeah that's another option for sure, I've just been told that these lack bass compared to the other models suggested so we'll see
 
speakers range from reproducing the sound of a concert in an arena to reproducing a jazz band in a club without amplification. Somewhere between the sound power of the arena and the pinpoint imaging of the jazz band sound is a lot you will like.

28 ain't a pipsqueak amp. Most amps didn't have more than 25 watts until the late 60s, early 70s as transistors came around and folks could build bigger amps. Many of those speakers were matched to non-sealed cabinets that played louder than the later sealed cabinets but even then many manufacturers were offering 8, 12 and 18 watt amps or receivers. These were the general entry level receivers from many major names. Unless you have to have headbanging volume with your hair band music 28 is a comfortable place to start out. Get something enjoy the tunes and now you can sit back and wait for a killer deal to find you as you search the regular outlets.

Eh? How can they sound any good with one defective woofer and two dead tweeters? :dunno:

28 wpc isn't all that low, at least by historical standards or modern valve standards. You could use pretty much any speakers you like as long as you're not looking to reach seriously loud SPLs.

Yeah somewhere between those two sounds perfect to something I'd want.

And yeah thats a good point, I should stop fixating on the fact it's 28 wpc, when in reality, there are many amps with less power that can handle numerous speakers with ample volume.

I know that sounds counterintuitive but they really don't sound bad because that one woofer only buzzes with certain bass frequencies. When it doesn't they really sound good imo, even with dead tweeters haha
 
Dynaco A 25 will work great and efficient. Klipsch for you are a nice choice. KLH 5 is a good choice. Klipsch Heresy would give you more full range, bigger sound within a reasonable size enclosure. The Advent and New Advent Loudspeaker and the KLH 6 are better with more powerful amplifiers.
 
Ok so final decisions to be made...

I found a pair of KLH 5's for 130, fully restored.

From the seller: "There was some water damage on the wood, and the plies were starting to come apart. I hammered and glued everything back into place. I also reglued all the inside seams, and recapped the crossover with appropriate value film capacitors. Lastly, I resealed the surrounds on the woofers and mid ranges. The speakers sound great."

I can also get a pair of Imperial 5 for the same price, and the Klipsch 2.2 for a little more than that. I'm not too certain about their conditions but the pictures look good and they offer free returns.

I know they are all different speakers but the KLH 5's seem closest to the nova 8's I have (talking about the amount of drivers and layout), and considering I like the sound of non-functioning 8's, I bet the KLH 5's will blow me away.

I also like the Imperial 5's because I've heard amazing things about the 6's and I've read the 5's only have a tad bit less bass (they're also eye candy to me).

The Klipsch I'm weary on just because I've read they can be quite fatiguing, and might not produce the best bass.

Keep in mind, my system will be in my bedroom so I wonder if the smaller woofers of the imperials and the 2.2's will matter at all.

If not Marantz Imp. 6, then KLH 6 or 5 would be excellent. Be wary of someone's idea of restored. Carry a pic of said speaker to compare to make sure the drivers are OEM.

ok yeah I'm probably gonna pull the trigger on the klh 5, I'll keep that in mind though when I inspect them. Thanks for the advice!
 
That is a killer deal on refurbished 5s. NOW, you have my permission lol.
But yeah take Drumbum’s advice.
