I bot a 38E "Shock and Awe" to get me into Hallicrafters. I will have it to remind me to get one of the better ones as you suggest.
 
I have a restored Zenith 7S558 thats a console, built in 1941. Still need to hook up a long wire antenna to it but it picks up am and a little shortwave, love this radio.
 
The thing is, you GOTTA get SEVERAL of 'em to decide which one's Da Best...Takin' into account reception, Styling, Sound qualities, Ease of Maintenance, etc...(grin)
 
Have a Grundig 2120 that's been restored (before I purchased it) and it's a fabulously sounding tube radio from the 50s. As far as getting more than one tube radio, don't stop with just one.

Also have Hallicrafters SX-71, Stewart Warner 9000B from 1947, an old Silvertone battery operated set from the 30s, an Atwater Kent that needs restoration, Heathkit HW-16 ham transceiver, and another tube amp or two around here somewhere....

I got an SX-73. Always wondered what the 71 was like.
 
The 71 looks to be quite a bit different than the 73. I'm not sure how it performs yet, that's another set that's on the restoration list, and I still need to round up an external speaker for it too.

Unfortunately, by the time they (Telefunken) got to the Opus 8, cost reduction meant a smaller and shallower chassis and cabinet. And details such as the shield on top of the rotary ferrite bar antenna were gone. Hence the ones to get are the earlier Opus 6 and 7.

All of them sound excellent, but I think I would give the nod to the 6 and 7, because of their larger round Alnico drivers versus the later oval shaped ones.
