best universal remote for audio

In need of remote for a Thule IA100 integrated amp and Denon DCD 1500 II CD player. I have the code for the Thule but not the Denon. I am thinking it might be cost effective to get a good universal remote. Another plus would be to have just one remote that I could for everything. Does anyone have experience with a good all purpose universal remote?

Harmony makes the best universal remotes hands down. You can find refurbished models for a fraction of the cost of new on Amazon. I have two of those and they're no different than new.

You need a computer to take full advantage of them. Being able to enter the model numbers of the gear in and have everything just work is a huge improvement over entering everything in by hand.
 
Thanks for the info. Do you use the computer to synch the component code into the remote? That would be a huge conveniance. What is the price range?
 
Another vote for a refurbished Harmony (Logitech). Best investment I have made. Super easy to program and will work even the most rare and strange items. Even on units I have the remotes for I like the Harmony better as it illuminates. Ypu hook it up to the PC via USB, use the included software (or website), enter the brand an model number and voila! its programmed. Could not be easier. For less than a hundred bucks you can get a really nice one, I bought a cheaper model for $39.00 and could not be happier.
 
I am looking for something easy to program and use. I get a lot of vintage gear from ebay and local thrifts and most time the remote is lost and codes are hard to come by. Sounds like the Logictech Harmony fits the bill.Thanks.
 
Another vote for the Harmony. Very easy to program & had codes for all the devices I needed. Picked mine up at a garage/estate sale for 50 cents. Heck of a deal.
 
I have Logitech Harmony 550. Bought it refurbished for $25 or so off Amazon. Stopped working after ca. 30 days. Contacted Logitech and they sent me a new one for free.

That was a year ago; today I found that the Harmony is not working. I sispect batteries need to be replaced; we shall see.

The programing of the Harmony 550 using the computer is more or less easy. However, using requires a few pushes of the small buttons to tell it what gear to operate. Sometimes, mine doesn't want to control some functions such as receiver level;this might be just mistakes I made during programming.

This is a great remote; however, I would not call it sturdy or easy to use.

I see a lot of love for Harmony remotes. My preference has always been for Philips Pronto touchscreen remotes. I own a Pronto TSU7500, which I've had for several years. I like that its 100% customizable, using the ProntoProEdit software that's available on the manufacturer's website.
