Bet you've never heard AR3a's like these...

that moron took speakers that easily sell on ebay for 600$+ and killed them.

tard lives about a 45 min drive from me, anyone have any happy thoughts to share with him when i go visit him to smack some sense into him?

Only in Quebec would someone do that to a pair of classics.
I take offense to that, those kinds of morons are everywhere.
I'm sure many idiotic and avoidable tragedies have occurred to good gear in your neck of the woods...

I'd bet that 99% of the great unwashed masses don't even know you can refoam speakers.

:tears: ...that woofer :yikes: ... oh, the PAIN!... :tears:

:nono: :boxing: :wtf: :twak: :uzi: :bash: :lazer: :pistols: :whip:

Here is a case where a smilie is worth a thousand words! :D

:scratch2: Just a thought: The cabinets and grill are in great cosmetic condition. Maybe someone could get these and find working drivers from some bashed-beyond-hope or waterlogged, etc... cabinet, to re-create one excellent 3a from two abused ones? Of course, you'd have to find such a donor unit... AND you'd have to talk the seller into lowering his price. Maybe if no one buys it, you could convince him to sell you the cabinet without the drivers, for less? I doubt it, but it's a thought. Otherwise, the price should be lowered to reflect what has been done to it, IMO.

I bet this guy read that post a while back about how to rebuild those great OLD speakers from your parents attic.

Only thing he forgot was to paint them..

They might actually sound good- depending on how well the seller integrated them (crossover mods)... but they're definitely not AR3s anymore.

In defense of the seller- those aren't cheap components. That B52 woofer looks to be a rather heavy-duty Eminence-built driver (and probably cost like $80 or more each, new), and a Dynaudio midrange dome definitely AIN'T CHEAP either (just those, in good shape, could bring close to $100 each, to the right buyer, these days). Those Philips AD0160s are getting harder to find, and probably are $30 or more each, realistically, these days...

He's not going to get $399 for them, I would strongly predict... but it's a lot better than the "white van speaker components" you see stuffed into these many times...

Regards,
Gordon.

At first I thought the author meant that the "MARS" technology had been applied. Don't laugh.

This technology was built into a line of speakers I believe during the 90's. I believe MARS stood for McShane Ambience Recovery System. I have never heard these loudspeakers, but a Chuck McShane was the guy at AR that was responsible for the AR-3a.
