Beyond KOB...

For something mellow but not bossa nova, The Last Concert by The Modern Jazz Quartet is a great album. It was originally a double LP, followed up by More from the Last Concert as a single LP, then collected all together as a double CD as The Complete Last Concert.

The MJQ were pursuing a "third stream" sound, fusing classical and jazz together.

This reminds me that i need a new copy of The Last Concert as mine has a bad side 4, probably a non-fill issue.

Do you have Blues At Carnegie Hall? That's another great one that gets a lot of play around here.

I like it like I like Thai food. Once a year or so. More than that and it hurts the digestive system.

There's some really good bossa nova, but certainly lots and lots of bad bossa nova. Darn near ruined jazz.

Here is something Roy did that's a little more Bossa Nova-ish! With Norris Turney on flute, Milt Jackson on vibes, Eddie Locke on drums, Ted Sturgis on bass, and Noran Simmons on piano. From 1976.

LOL...there's a conspiracy out there!! We've got to get to the bottom of it!!
How about some strings with bossa nova.

I love how AK music threads can hit the ditch but don't get shut down like wire threads, analog vs digital, etc. No hurt feelings and tears, just bs-ing.

Back to the bossa nova. Probably my fav is this Bill Barron. Barron is never boring, plus I look tres cool sauntering around the house doing that finger snapping thing while it's playing.

Yeah, that and the whole 'with strings' movement. Right @jgannon ? :p

How dare you... :naughty:

I threw so many side-eyes hard and fast at these comments that I may need to see an ophthalmologist Monday morning if complete bed rest tomorrow doesn't help.

Some really good recommendations for the post KOB transition. One I have always enjoyed is Miles Davis - Sketches of Spain.
