Just picked up a very good condition BIC 960 and having some trouble with the multi-play function. After setting everything up and placing records on the multi-play spindle, I’ll set the programmer to the number of records and press “Cycle” as instructed. The platter will start, the tonearm will move to the 7” start position (while using 12” LPs), drop, and then the platter will stop. Seems like the problem might be dried up grease since that’s the common one here, but I wanted to ask if there are any other common problems that might cause this or if this is symptomatic of a specific issue. If it is just grease, anyone have any suggestions for a good grease to use? Thanks!

Don’t think there’s anything damaged, so that’s probably it. Maybe a stupid question, but what’s the best way to work on the table upside down? It doesn’t have a hinged dust cover so I can’t really just turn it over.

I guess you could first flip the dust cover over and then place the table on it after you first remove the platter. I have always used either wood blocks or, of all things, 8-track tape cartridges to support the table in appropriate places. Others have used pillows and placed the table upside down in it.
