BIC 980/960 spindle orientation?

Servicing the current 980 I'm keeping doing the loosen dried grease process also rotated the center spindle. Which I didn't know until today when I tried stacking records for the first time. Wasn't going to work because the records were too far away from the clamp in back left corner. Took me awhile of walking it backwards or forwards to figure out the stacking spindle was holding the records too far away from the clamp and the reason why is because the alignment slot for the spindle was in the wrong place. Was in the wrong place as already noted, spinning, cleaning, etc., to get the platter off also spun the central spindle. The bend in the spindle placed the records in the wrong direction.

Was easier than I expected to move the central spindle and by trial and error have multi-disk play working.

I scanned the service manual. Didn't see any specs for the alignment notch.

Where does that notch actually need to be if using a clock face?

Yes, the bend in the spindle needs to "point" to the record support with the ledge opposite.

Unfortunately, if you can turn the spindle around while it is installed and the pin is in the slot, it means the spindle bushing/bearing is broken loose from is support underneath, It needs to be reattached. Originally, it is staked to the support. I have never had to reattach one but others have used super glue to do it after it's in the correct position.

It looks simple enough. Even to tack it with a punch. TT plays great and I can’t imagine actually doing multiple records. I was playing. There’s also ones available for not much. Right now if it ain’t broke…..
