BIC Venturi

I have a pair of BIC Venturi on Amazon for 99 bucks about 10 years ago. Been very pleased, paired with a polk subwoofer. But that hasn't stopped me in my search for the "perfect sound". Over the years, Tried to upgrade a cpl times, once with JBL bookshelves,once with Polk. Both times, quickly went back to the BIC's. About to come into a little extra doe, let's say a $500 budget. Any suggestions about an upgrade, maybe sub too? Been wondering about ELAC, or is it more marketing?

I am interested to know what model of BIC you have been so pleased with, but unfortunately I don't have any suggestions for you to upgrade.
 
I always see nice looking BIC's on Craigslist for very cheap. I really know nothing about the brand. Why so cheap, is it crap?
 
I think the old BICs from the 70s sounded pretty good, clear and dynamic, but they weren' fashionable for whatever reason. I'd take a nice BIC over the Advent and most ARs, KLHs and Dynacos of the time. The newer BICs I have no experience with.
 
I assume you mean the DV62SI bookshelf speakers? Quite good.
But you kinda gotta include some info like:
1. What are you using them for? Mostly music? Movies? Etc.
2. Are you looking for floorstanders? Bookshelves? Is WAF a big part of things?
3. What sort of other gear are you using? Amp, source, etc.
With this info it might be a little easier to know where you want to go in the future.

If you have the BIC DV62si bookshelf speakers, those are especially fantastic when properly modded.
 
I used a pair of Venturi v52 as my garage speakers, powered by a BT chip amp. They're efficient, and have impressive bass for their size. But I've always felt they were too bright. I'm not sure if that's the sound sig of BIC across their line, as I haven't heard any other BIC speakers. I did own the Elac B4, and the AJ Pioneer as well. IMO, AJ's designs are bassy, warm, and laid back. So, don't think you'd like it if you like bright speakers.
 
You live in fortunate times if you want to go new and you're on a budget. All these are around or under the $500 mark: Elac Debut 2.0 B6.2, Klipsch RP 600M, JBL Stage A130. Or perhaps a pair of Pioneer SP-BS22-LR's where you'll have enough money left over for a dedicated sub like the Dayton Audio Sub1000 and still stay under $500. Google them and you'll find lots of reviews to get some idea as their respective sound.
