Currently, in the main setup(s) i have a Yamaha M 70 connected to a pair of Minimus 7 look alikes. The have mesh screens, a large magnet on the woofer.

But to teh point(s)

edit---tehy handle power very well. even some usable extension at higher then normal volumes!
any one else run big amp, tiny speakers

And what do you think of the sound? I think what im using now well recorded music sounds wonderful. Male and female voices are pleasant to listen to. Though teh tweeter can get too hot with too much compression(badly recorded music or over compression)

Photos coming as i got a new camera and i can do a super micro with it. And better focus...heheh:tresbon::D

Big amp, tiny speakers I'd do anyday.

Tiny amp and big speakers, say tubes at 5 watts and a very sensitive speaker: That I am scared of.

Yes. I have a pair of Minimus 77s connected to a 425wpc QSC PLX2402. Not quite the same situation though because I'm not running them full range.

They seem to be holding up although the back surround channels aren't exceptionally demanding.

If runing only 5W, then sensitive speakers is what you actually want! If you have 85dB/W/m speakers, you may be tempted and probably will crank the volume up a lot more than on, say 93dB/W/m speakers. The lower-sensitivity speakers are more likely to have the user clip the signal out of the amp.

Interesting, as I'm running a Yamaha M-50 (125 WPC) with B&W DM602's right now (in testing mode). They sound good together...

I run a Marantz 4300 quad receiver with Minimus 7's in my bedroom system (100+ w/ch bridged if I want) and have run an Accuphase E-202 or Yamaha CA-1010 there as well. Why not?

these little buggers are on the sensitive side. or is the word effiecient? some times i use them to give extra midrange to a pair of vega MX 400's works out great. well gotta get to work.

Sensitivity is the dB/W/m (or dB/2.83V/m) number. If you're talking efficiency then you're talking percents, and low percents at that, for typical home audio speakers as in the neighborhood of 0.5-5%.

These aren't too big and these aren't too tiny but here's my contribution:

What brand are they? Looks intriguing. Ill take a photo of the speakers im talking about. See what the new camera can do. Still havent done any photos of much equipment with it.
But its a better quality one. Zooms to 15x. Nice feature. Being able to zoom in on a face from a couple hundred feet is fun!

We just got back from my sons karate class where he earned his green belt!

here is a pic of said speaker with a ps2 video game for comparision.:music:

any one else with comparative system(s) in use. Im using 200 wpc with these speakers. Ive gotten past noon(sansui 2000x) on the preamp with these.

I had a Dynaco ST400 amp and PAT5 pre laying around, so decided to put together a second family room system with sale RS LX5's for the heck of it. Even through a passive sub cossover at moderate level's, the Linaeum tweeter's cooked out in a matter of day's. Radio Shack replaced them twice, but decided this wasn't such a good idea. The family room is now HT with different speaker's, with the LX5's in the basement using Tang Band dome's on a 40w reciever. Sold off the Dynaco stuff.

Too big an amp is better for all speakers than too small an amp. And you will know pretty quickly on both if you are using too much volume!

i run my adcom 555II into my spendor s3/5s and consider it a necessity. sensitivity of the spendors is 84db! the 200wpc adcom is JUST RIGHT for them. at fo tien's apartment, we played them with his aragon 400wpc monoblocks and they couldnt have sounded better. they even put out respectable bass for their size.

i first got this idea from a bert whyte column (decades ago) in AUDIO magazine where he ran some tiny B&W monitors with a big krell.

remember that i said that they are Minimus 7 look alikes.:tresbon:

These have mesh screens. the Minimus 7s have punch holes in sheet panels for screens.

Have you considered running them with a subwoofer? I used to have a pair of Minimus Sevens, and one day I hooked them up with a BSR passive sub I had lying around - they sounded amazing!
