Earth calling @kevzep ...
Yamaha PM4000, turd, never liked those consoles.....Not my sonic preference.....
I liked the British Midas XL4 pictured here at a show I was mixing a few years ago, insanely good sounding console... We use digital consoles all the time now, we still have this one but it hardly ever goes out any more sadly...
Should be able to pick one of those Yamahas up pretty cheap I imagine..

Big old mixers are a very tough sell, worth pennies on what they cost new unless it's one of the really good ones (Amek, Neve, Studer ect)

Edit to add, the biggest market for these old relics is actually the DR Congo, there's a HUGE live music and production scene out there. People are shipping 40ft containers FULL of old PA gear out there.

Best offer yet also priced to sell.

I love it lol

Good lord I imagine trying to perform any meaningful service to an old battle tank like that must be VERY time consuming.

Easy to see why it's done differently these days.

They're pretty modular.

The preamp/channel sections come out individually.

Those appear to have been in and out many times, likely many times by novices blessing it's soul with strokes of their golden screwdriver. ;)

Reminds me of a Soundcraft Delta 200 I had. Loved modding that guy, modular like this Yamaha.

But yeah good luck finding a buyer....

I sold one for my church about 3 years ago, I think it was a Yamaha, 16 or 24 channels so not so huge. Maybe 30" wide. Found someone local off CL who had had one years earlier and loved it, and wanted another. Paid me $90 for it. It's a crapshoot though. All the new stuff is much more computerized and has bells and whistles like parametric EQ, twice the features but half the size.

Must be a kajillion quality audio taper pots in there though, I wonder if they'd be good for parts?

That's the rub. Until you get into a higher end mixer the pots are one of the places costs are cut and are often times on the cusp of cheap junk.

At least with a console from a sound company, band, or studio there's usually somebody within reach who can offer some history, indicate any upgrades or modifications, and maybe even how many channels are still fully functioning.

With this being surplus gear from a university, it's hard to say how many hands have been in it over time, and of those how many were qualified. The preamp sections appear to have been in and out many times, i kinda doubt it was for the purpose of upgrading any components.

If you're going to spend any amount of money on a big console for anything but a toy, look for one that can be demo'd or is in a working environment.
