Binding post hum

Hi everyone
So i have a pair of 1998 tannoy mercury m2's and i decided to replace the binding posts with some new ones that to use banana plugs with as am regularly changing hifi components. I installed the new ones and now i have a crazy hum noise in the speaker so i took the new binding post out and put the original in and the hum still persists. I cant think what it is. The nut on the inside of the driver unit that attached the binding post to the terminal was covered in a blue glue type substance which has almost been removed in the process was this important? Im lost any advice would be appreciated

Hmmmm...the hum can not be made by the speaker, It most likely comes from the amp or before the amp. Try with another amp, check your connections, ground wire for the turntable if you are using one...
And no, the blue stuff cannot make any difference, it is just glue to prevent the nut from becoming undone.

Hi bert. I eventually solved it im such an idiot! I think i got so annoyed with it i lost focus. I was sat doing something else, glanced across and seen the selector switch on my reciever was on phono!!!

Make sure you listen to it on a Grado cartridge. ;-)
