One more thing...the amp is rigged Ultra-Linear...follow the final's g2 connection to taps on the primary. That's part of why they terminated the driver stage in cathode followers. The other bit is so it can deliver grid current at full power.

Pentodes have very high input impedances since all but a little bit of the capacitance is hidden from the input by the screen. When g2 has signal on it( as in U-L or Triode ), the drive requirements go *WAY* up.

Do away with the input triode stage, feed right to the g1 of the input pentode, and restore the PS capacitors and see where that leaves you.

On the plus side, an output TX good enough to be included in a 4-stage NFB loop is a good one indeed( not counting the input triode, it is out of the FB loop ). Those amps should really rock. May have to get one myself...or at least its output TX so it can be reproduced.

Wasn't hush-hush actually but I didn't want to jinx the deal before I actually had the amp in my grubby mitts. Not I just gotta gather the dough to have them done up right. They should be fun amps and a lot more power than Im used to. You might just have to see these in person Nate. They are big thats for sure.

I'll definitely have to check those out when you've got them up and running... you don't yet, do you? Good thing is your gas bill will be lower this year.:D

If you want to hide them away in some cabinets (or if the Mrs. says you must...), you should check out the Setchel Carlson console I picked up a while back. Two cabs that look identical from the frontsides, with lots of vacant real estate inside. Let me know if you want some pics.

I think I'll store 'em in the garage for an indeterminate amount of time... I like having lots of things to navigate the car around! Currently they're being used as pedestals to support any number of random garage-type treasures.:D

I doubt they'll ever be allowed to come inside, so let me know if you could find a use for them. If you came to pick them up, I'd make you listen to my system. I don't know if that's incentive or not...

I would love to hear the Eico on Klipsch set-up anyway. We will see if the one equipment cab could be converted to speaker cab!

Just got them back tonight from the great re-cap. I was going to wait until I had my bases made before setting everthing up but I could'nt wait for that nonsense. I didn't even take the time to rearange wiring or anything, just hook up and go. Im going to address some of that this weekend but will just be enjoying them for the time being

I did listen to them for a while in another system to get a feel for them with passive x-overed speakers (no bi-amp). They really sound great so far and Im very pleased. In the main system, they are being used as amps to power my bass bins and everything over 800 Hz is all Pilot.

Another thanks to Redboy (Nate) for hooking me up with his guy. Unfortunatly, after he cleaned me out of some speakers and tube tuners, he said he wont be doing anymore work for trades for sometime. He did take my Pilot AA-908 schematic home to break it down for me. That one will actually cost me some real cash money.

I will post some of the recap pic's after I pull them out again

They are sounding pretty sweet so far soundmotor. Well worth looking into if I were you. Powerful but still retain a very nice tube quality.

My first listen to them was driving a pair of Mach 1's with a passive preamp and CD. We set up with a pair of Mach's because it was one of the speaker pairs he was taking home with him. We let everything warm up for a time and then listened to a little acoustical music. Now Im not really a Mach 1 kinda guy but after 20 minutes of listening I was smiling ear to ear.

I am 99.99% sure that the output transformer innards are the same as the ones on the HK Citation II.

That makes me smile in my own right.
