Had the pleasure of bidding farewell to one of the bands that shaped my musical interest, So so, Long ago as a child of the 70's. No Bill Ward due to some issue with Ozzy a couple years ago, But hey, You get a nice good bye from the band. I always thought Tommy Iommi has been short changed for his guitar work over the years, We fans new better of course. Well, We have the albums to always cheer those riffs, And memories of some of the best shows ever put on stage. Sabbath are on tour, And hitting your town hopefully. Go say thanks for the great rock'n roll. Peace

For many years persons in the know, whether or not they are Sabbath fans, have recognized the imprtance of Tony's innovation and contribution to the development of the "rock genre", esp. (of course) "metal". Add to that his place as one of the finest riff writers in all of rock and he's counted among the very best. And @ the 2016 tour he's still about the heaviest-sounding cat roamin' 'n' playin' the big venues.

What is your opinion of the setlist that Sabbath played the night you saw/heard them perform? I love that (@ the Chicago & Winnipeg shows -- haven't checked the San Jose setlist) they are including more material from Paranoid and Master Of Reality than they have in decades. It is the most fitting way for Sabbath to bow out.

Here is the set list, Looks like it dos'nt vary much show to show;

1. "Black Sabbath"
2. "Fairies Wear Boots"
3. "After Forever"
4. "Into the Void"
5. "Snowblind"
6. "War Pigs"
7. "Behind the Wall of Sleep"
8. "N.I.B."
9. "Hand of Doom"
10. "Rat Salad"
11. "Iron Man"
12. "God Is Dead?"
13. "Dirty Women"
14. "Children of the Grave"
Encore:
15. "Paranoid"

They more or less went the "Priest" route from the "Epitaph" tour. A bit of everything. Would have liked to hear more from "13", One of my favorite Sabbath lp's, And will be a classic as the years roll by. Yes, Your review of Tommi is spot on, He changed my musical taste with the opening of Paranoid way back when. Then Led Zep, Then Deep Purple, Then Floyd, And here we are.

Thanks for posting the setlist. Yes, that's more or less the list when this tour was launched.

We are indeed.

re: 13, although I find the sound of the thing a bit compressed, I agree it is (already) an essential expression of their oeuvre and sure to become a classic.

Saw them last weekend in Tacoma, WA. Was a great show. Also liked the opening act Rival Sons.

I have been reading generally positive and even a few rave reviews of the Rival Sons @ these shows. I listened to a couple of numbers, selected @ random, that they performed @ the Chicago (22 January) performance. While I don't know the extent to which the numbers I selected are representative of Sons' oeuvre, I liked them well enough, but not quite well enough to grab the balance of their (brief @ eight songs) set. Maybe I'll go listen to a couple more.

re: the Tacoma show (6 February), there is a nice ROIO out 'n' about that includes the complete (Sabbath) soundcheck.

I was lucky to see them last time around with Ozzy at least a decade ago, the recent Vancouver show was cancelled but back on for march 7.. Saw Heaven and Hell too with Dio..god that was awsome:beerchug:

H and H is one of my favorite albums, That opening riff is a hellava way to start an album. Still makes the hair on my neck stand up. Actually like the Dio fronted Sabbath better, Hope lightning dos'nt hit the house. Think I may be in the minority on that one. Sorry Ozzy.

I liked there style a lot, Not a lot of opening bands get the crowd going, These guys did. Did a little research, There very into Led Zep, And it showed. I ordered there album "Great Western Valkyrie" Lets see how they sound in the studio.

The rendition of "After Forever" @ the farewell tour gigs was usually brilliant and occasionally stunning.

OzzFest 2004. Tampa FL.

"Original" lineup.
GREAT show.
Never thought I'd get to see that lineup.
I was close enough to see Iomi's plastic fingertips!
Row 13 IIRC on his side.

  1. War Pigs
  2. N.I.B.
  3. Fairies Wear Boots
  4. Into the Void
  5. Sweet Leaf
  6. Black Sabbath
  7. Snowblind
  8. Iron Man
  9. Children of the Grave
  10. Paranoid

Judas Priest was the co-headliner and was on classic form.
Crowd gave JP more love than Sabbath.
Not sure they realized the historic significance.

Wish I'd been able to catch the Dio fronted version.
I did get to see the Sacred Heart tour though.
Vivian Campbell did a respectable job on Heaven and Hell.

I remember watching them play a couple songs for a get together for an event on TV maybe five or six years ago...

and how incredibly tight they were.

then I was just estatic that they were not using EMG pickups

Seen the Black and Blue tour back in high school in Northern Indiana. Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Molly Hatchet and somebody else. Can't remember who! Never had the pleasure of seeing them with Ozzy.
