Your black sx 1250 is in my opinion worth considerably more. Never seen one before and I've been watching Ebay for a while now. Most likely the European version. I wouldn't be surprised if you could get $1200 for it... Or just give your friend the six bills and hang on to it...
WAIT A MINUTE How do you get a Black SX-1250? The Black SX that looks like and is the same as a SX-1250 is a SX-5590 NOT a Black 1250. Where did the seller come up with a Black SX-1250? The Europeans are SX-55XX numbers.

Mark, the one you have pictured saying is a 5590 is in fact a 5580, as a matter of fact, it looks like the one that w1jim picked up and is restoring. There are subtle differences between the 55XX and XX50 series, like the meters background of the XX50's are white, where the 55XX are silver. The toroidal transformers between the switchable and fixed voltage units is also different.
I guess he was just trying to make people aware of the fact that they are the Euro Version of the SX-1250, and more vintage enthusiasts are familiar with the 1250 than the 5590.
On the other hand probably comparatively common in Europe. I wonder if these were picked up by GIs and brought home like the PL-L1000 TTs?
None-the-less :drool::drool::drool:

There's a thread on the BlackSilver units which seems to indicate that they were actually built for the GI market and sold at the base exchanges in Europe, especially Germany.
No --they did not do that to the 1980 , nor the 1280 . The 1280 was a US model only for its short lived run. It was sandwiched in between the 1250 which they made tons of them , and then did a brief run of the 1280 --then as the audiowars heated up and Pioneer dropped the 1980 bomb.
Then the bottom fell out on the audio industry and Pioneer was forced to downsize. Hence the floroscan models.
