Blood moon and meteor shower...

Big night for us left coast skywatchers... The meteor shower is on and five hours till the max lunar eclipse...

Head phones on, pillows and blankets on, and time to gaze skyward...

Might be a bourbon and lemonade kinda night...

Some might even indulge in the funky lettuce if that's their thing...

Those on the east coast can catch the sunrise while the full moon is coming out of eclipse on the opposite horizon..

An awesome night indeed...

BTW a racoon almost gave me a heartattack while I was chilling on the lawn.

Didn't hear him on the approach... was a little zoned out when the whiskered, glowing eyed beast was just sitting couple feet aware staring at me.

On the plus side it wasn't a skunk! :thmbsp:

Time to power down and go dark again... great evening!

Approaching half darkened here. Beautiful clear sky in Kansas City. Got lucky for a change.

Also noticed Orion is a clear distinct image at 9:00 o'clock, opposite of the moon. As clear as I have ever seen it in the light polluted big city sky.

I noticed the same thing with Orion where I'm at (30 miles south of Chicago). It's as clear as I've ever seen it too. It seems like it's just popping out of the sky.

Perfect early morning sky here in the Missouri Ozarks. My wife had never seen a lunar eclipse before and was awestruck. Definitely worth getting up a bit early for! :thmbsp:
