Bluegrass

I have a documentary with some great footage of Doc and his son Merle (who was tragically killed while in his prime). On my Leo Kottke DVd there is a great clip of Doc, Leo and Chet Atkins having some pickin fun...great stuff. I know some younger folks who like listening to groups like Yonder Mountain String Band which is refreshing for me.

My dad was from Kentucky and was a big fan of Bill Monroe and Ricky Skaggs. I have a 45 of Bill Monroe that came off the jukebox we had in our family owned diner when I was a kid. It makes me think of dad whenever I play it and it means a lot to me.
 
I have memories of hanging out at Bill Monroe's campsite at this same bluegrass festival. It used to be called Winterhawk. He would do corny tricks like pulling quarters from behind children's ears.
